21-year-old McIlroy, who led after round one by shooting the lowest first round in Open history, demonstrated that St Andrews is definitley a course he could win on in the future. The world number nine from Holywood matched his third place in last year’s US PGA, making it three top-10s in his seven major appearances as a professional.
Coming tied 3rd along with Casey and Stenson, Rory lost out to South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen who romped to a seven-stroke victory over Lee Westwood at St Andrews over the weekend.
All eyes are now on the Irish golfing contingent with the 3 Irish Open coming up in Killarney from the 29 July to 1 August 2010.
