We met up with Jordan to find out a little bit more about his personal choice, words of advice, and his passion for creating exquisite drinks!
Tell us about your career so far
I started with the company back in September 2017. I began working in the banqueting department as a bartender where I quickly grew to the fast-paced bar environment. I developed a keen interest in making cocktails and learning more about my craft. In September 2018 I then got the opportunity to move to the hotel’s signature gin and cocktail bar, which was the main factor in my progression. From there I’ve gained very extensive knowledge and passion for gin and creating amazing drinks. In November 2020 I then progressed into the management side of the job, becoming the Assistant Bar Manager.
Where do you get your skills from?
I’ve been fortunate to have been provided with numerous training courses throughout the past 4 years in the resort. I have completed the World Host for customer service and the Wines & Spirits Educational Trust level 2, where I look forward to taking on level 3. I’m currently completing a NVQ level 3 in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership which was hugely beneficial for me before starting into the management role. I’ve attended many training courses and educational days with many different spirit distilleries and companies which have been key for enhancing my knowledge and skills.
What’s your favourite gin?
Definitely have quite a few favourites out of the 500+ but my goto has got to be Boatyard from Co.Fermanagh, incredible all round gin, I love the predominant juniper flavour followed by a lovely balance of citrus and floral notes.
What’s your favourite gin cocktail?
My favourite gin cocktail has to be the classic gin martini. It’s the best cocktail to really appreciate any premium gin used in the making of it. I enjoy mine stirred down with a little touch of vermouth, a dash of orange bitters and some lemon peel as garnish.
What do you enjoy most about working at Galgorm?
I enjoy many of aspects of working in Galgorm. The endless opportunities for development the company has provided have been amazing. I’ve got to work with some amazing people throughout my time here who have become very good friends with outside of work also. Having the chance to make customers' experiences unforgettable each and every day is an amazing feeling. I am very proud to say I work at one of Ireland’s top hotels.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I enjoy being as active as I can and getting outdoors. Things like playing football, going to the gym, walking & running. I also enjoy sipping on the odd cocktail or 3. (Educational purposes of course)
