Meet Lisa

We met up with Lisa to find out a little bit more about her personal choice, her talent, and her passion for bartending and the keys to mastering the architecture of taste.

Tell us about your career so far?

I always had a keen interest in hospitality and the diversity of the industry, but I decided to go to university to gain a degree to kickstart a career. In 2017 I discovered that that route wasn’t for me and got a job as a food and beverage assistant in the Galgorm Spa + Golf Resort Conservatory serving afternoon tea. After a year I moved on to the gin bar to learn more about the bar side of food and beverage. From this, I was offered the role of Assistant Manager in the award-winning Gin Library.

Proudest accomplishment behind the bar?

Getting the opportunity to be a bartender, getting quality training and being recognised for my passion.

What’s your favourite gin?

My favourite gin would have to be Tanqueray London dry. Charles Tanqueray wasn’t afraid to mix his bold ideas and consequently created one of the worlds most awarded and perfectly balanced gins. This makes this spirit my favourite base for cocktails! 

What’s your favourite gin cocktail?

Definitely a Singapore sling! I love how the different ingredients balance so well with each other to create such a textured and flavoursome outcome.

What is your favourite perfect serve?

My favourite gin serve is Nordes paired with 1724 tonic and garnished with red and green grapes and fresh mint. 

What’s the most unusual drink request you’ve received?

A pint of beer in a gin goblet...

At the end of your shift what drink to you pour yourself?

Baileys... or maybe vodka. depending on how the shift went!

Favourite thing about working behind a bar?

Proving that women can be great bartenders too. Don't tell the boys that!

Favourite drink to mix?

Gin Old Fashioned with flavoured gins.

If bartenders had superpowers, yours would be?

Mind-reader! To produce quality drinks just to the guests liking.

What’s the best piece of bartending advice you’ve ever received?

Quality over Quantity.

What’s one thing you tell others about bartending?

This job is like marmite - you either love it or hate it.

If your bar shifts had a theme song what would it be?

Dished - Purple Disco Machine
