The World Luxury Awards Celebrate Excellence with Stunning Gala Ceremonies at AYANA Bali and Galgorm in Northern Ireland — The World Luxury Awards, the pinnacle of recognition for the global luxury hospitality industry, successfully hosted two grand gala ceremonies this past week. The iconic AYANA Bali and the glamorous Galgorm served as the prestigious backdrops for these celebrated events, held on 16 and 19 October 2024, respectively.

 

AYANA Bali Gala – A Night of Tropical Elegance

On the 16th of October, AYANA Bali welcomed distinguished guests from around the world for an unforgettable evening of tropical elegance. The luxurious beachfront setting provided the perfect ambiance for recognizing the finest of luxury establishments. Attendees were treated to a spectacular display of Balinese culture, including traditional dances, gourmet cuisine featuring local delicacies, all in an enchanting setting of lights and glamour.

Winners in categories spanning from luxury hotels and wellness retreats to Michelin star restaurants and premium travel facilities were announced amidst applause. The night was a tribute to innovation, excellence, and the relentless pursuit of perfection in the luxury hospitality sector.

 

Galgorm Gala – A Symphony of Sophistication

Just three days later, the awards moved to the enchanting Galgorm in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. On the 19th of October the sprawling estate, known for its lush gardens and opulent interiors, played host to a sophisticated evening of celebration. The gala embraced the rich cultural heritage of Northern Ireland, with live music performances, a gourmet banquet, and a true Irish sendoff at McKendry’s Bar after the closing of the ceremony.

The Galgorm ceremony honored outstanding achievements in luxury travel, fine dining, bespoke wellness experiences, and the best in the luxury travel sector. Esteemed guests, gathered to celebrate the achievements, speak on camera and network with their peers.

A further resounding celebration was had when for the first time ever, the Hospitality Excellence Award was presented. This is the first of its kind and is chosen for those, who through their unwavering support to hospitality service excellence across the board, were nominated for participation with their hotel, spa and restaurant. For 2024, this honour went to Viceroy Bali, Akoya Spa and Apéritif Restaurant.

The 2024 Chairman Award proudly went to Australia Zoo, hand selected by the CEO of the World Luxury Awards, for their massive contribution to education of the world’s youth, zoology and compassion for animals at this world-class travel facility.

Dog walks close to Galgorm

A stunning walk close to Galgorm is along the Maine Riverside. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. The walk can be started from Gillies Bar to the rear of Galgorm where the signposted route takes dog walkers along the enchanting River Maine. Dog walkers can also do a spot of birdwatching. Look out for Kingfishers, Goldcrests, Chiffchaffs & Sedge warblers. Dog walks a short drive from Galgorm Causeway Coast Way (35 min drive from Galgorm) offers some unforgettable walking routes, from Portstewart to Ballycastle, passing through the Causeway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (World Heritage Site) and several Areas of Special Scientific Interest. It includes views of wide bays, sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and off-shore rock formations.

Galgorm Collection has announced the opening of Northern Ireland’s newest luxury hotel in an investment worth £10 million that will create an additional 26 hospitality jobs, taking its total workforce to almost 100 team members, and provide an exciting welcome break for visitors from this summer.

The 33-bedroom boutique hotel and spa - The Rabbit Hotel & Retreat – will open on 18 June and follows the purchase and dramatic transformation of the former Templeton Hotel in Templepatrick, a picturesque Co Antrim village located only 20 minutes from Belfast and 10 minutes from Belfast International Airport.

The property was acquired by Galgorm Collection in 2018 and now offers stylish accommodation, a luxury outdoor spa and lakeside walk, an onsite bar and restaurant and an exclusive-use events space for weddings and conferences.

Galgorm Collection Managing Director, Colin Johnston, said:

“After more than 18 months of extensive redevelopment and a challenging year for the hospitality industry we’re thrilled to throw open our doors and welcome guests to enjoy this unmatched new experience.

Not only does this represent a significant investment in the local economy and cements our longstanding commitment to support and grow our tourism industry, but it comes with 26 new hospitality roles which we are currently recruiting for.”

Extensive refurbishment work has been undertaken to upgrade the hotel’s 33 guestrooms which come equipped with all the latest mod cons.

Additionally, a £2 million outdoor spa area offers guests a lakeside tranquil space for relaxation, with unique attractions including Swedish saunas, aromatherapy steam room, halotherapy salt chamber and Roman inspired baths and hot tubs. Exclusive to The Rabbit is a lakeside beach complete with heated sand, a Lake Bar, sunken lounge and plush cabanas for a laid back, luxurious experience.

Experience Elements

Traipsing around the Thermal Village is a sure fire way to work up an appetite and Elements provides the relaxing environment for a nourishing interlude during your journey of rediscovery. A lot has changed since last Spring, most notably the awe-inspiring halo dome structure that is home to Elements, located in the heart of the Thermal Village. If it’s structure itself doesn’t impress, perhaps the fact that it is only 1 of 5 such structures in the world will! Offering freshly prepared salads, hand baked pastries and deliciously more-ish crepes, you can be as virtuous or indulgent as you like. We recommend trying a rejuvenation drink; designed to replenish the body with vitamins and minerals leaving you truly refreshed. 

 

Savour A Taste of Spring 

Renowned for showcasing a taste of what’s in season, The Conservatory’s seasonal Afternoon Tea Menus have become almost as anticipated as the changing of the season itself. Miniature savouries include something for adventurous and the traditionalists alike; goats cheese and caramelised onion quiche feature alongside a bonafide afternoon tea classic; egg and spring onion on white bread. When it comes to something that will certainly satisfy your sweet tooth, seasonal fruits take centre stage with mouthwatering strawberry trifle and the dreamy combination of lemon and raspberry in our delicate friands. No leisurely afternoon would be complete without the accompaniment of a delightful cup of tea to complete proceedings. Whatever your cup of tea, we have a blend of Mr.Jones’ tea for every palate. 

 

A Taste For The Finer Things 

Boasting 3 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence Head Chef of the River Room, Chris Rees has designed a menu of gastronomic delights, showcasing dishes that are true to the carefully selected ingredients, manifesting to something of an experience to be remembered. For those who have yet to savour the culinary prowess of the River Room kitchen, the five course tasting menu is the perfect introduction to the ethos of the River Room.

 

Springtime Gin-Time

While we would happily sip on a G&T year-round, a delicately refreshing gin encompasses Springtime like no other. Our resident Gin connoisseur or ‘ginnoisseur’ Matthew recommends the intriguing Nordés Atlantic Galician Gin accompanied by none other than Fever-tree Mediterranean. Served with red and white grapes and edible viola flowers, the bold, floral flavour profile will transport you to the spirit’s eponymous origins.

I’m not sure about you, but once the thought of outdoor bathing comes to mind, so too do connotations of sun-drenched, temperate, 30-something degree weather - Aperol spritz optional. While there’s no denying the unadulterated bliss of a cool dip in the pool is difficult to top, we implore you to give our renowned Riverside Bathing Experience a go. One of our favourite past times to indulge in year-round is Afternoon Tea. While the tradition has a resurgence in recent times, the tea-related ritual has remained untouched, preserving its indulgent nature. The early evening twilight haze is a spectacle to marvel upon, particularly with panoramic views of the river provided by The Conservatory. Commanding an enviable position on the beautiful Causeway coastal route and within lush countryside, is the prestigious Northern Irish property of Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort. During Spring 2019, the world-class hotel will unveil its new country cottage accommodation offering.

Guests to Galgorm will now have the option of staying within a collection of 17 individual country cottages within the stunning parkland estate. Each is set within its own pretty garden location, boasting rural countryside views and all closely linked to the picturesque River Maine. This new group-friendly accommodation offering, due to launch during late April, will offer guests access to all the high-end amenities of the world class estate, but within a more secluded, private setting.

Each cottage has been designed to be contemporary yet comfortable, boasting spacious open plan living areas, which include a fully equipped kitchen, lounge and dining space, perfect for modern day R&R.
The bathrooms are luxe and stocked with spa products, each with bath/shower combined. The bedrooms within The Cottage Collective are luxurious and benefit from full housekeeping attention.

Set within a beguiling natural space, relax and stay with friends and family and even your dog and explore pleasant riverside and woodland walks, straight from your own front door. Or if on business, catch up with work within a peaceful and secluded location.

Select from Nine – 1-bedroom cottages (with 1 double bed or 2 singles) suitable for two adults.

Seven – 2-bedroom cottages (with either 2 double beds or 4 single beds) maximum of four adults.

One – 3-bedroom cottage (with either 3 double beds or 6 single beds) maximum of six adults.

These country cottages are in addition to the existing log cabins which line the riverside.

Red Oaks, set within its own grounds, is a further exclusive-use option, ideal for larger parties up to twelve guests. An original building, it has been completely refurbished and now boasts a most opulent stay with a spacious and modern kitchen and dining room, for family or group entertaining.

Relax also beside the open fire in the living room during the Winter months or unwind in the hot-tub on the terrace, during warmer climes, all whilst overlooking the rush of the River Maine beyond.

Independent accommodation which offers unpretentious luxury, where the outdoors meets the indoors. This latest development marks the next chapter in the success story of Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort near Ballymena.

This particular project in its entirety (to include further spa additions at a later date) will represent an investment of over £14 million this will bring the total investment at the Resort to £50 million over the past 10 years.

The vision behind this continued growth is a commitment to enhancing the tourism infrastructure in Northern Ireland by delivering world-class facilities and providing an unrivaled customer experience.

Additional plans for the next phase include 64 new hotel bedrooms, an exclusive rooftop spa, added external spa garden facilities and an executive lounge.

In the last 12 months alone Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort has expanded its Thermal Spa Village to over 3 acres, with the addition of the Serenity Spa Garden with private hot tubs, Elements restaurant at the Halo Dome (a unique structure and one of only 5 in the world!) offering a unique robed dining experience as well as further investment to the 4 onsite restaurants, boasting a truly extensive choice for guests.

This has complemented the success of the additional 48 bedrooms and luxury thermal spa facilities unveiled during 2015.
