Celebrating excellence, the internationally renowned retreat picked up the awards at the glittering gala ceremony at Galgorm itself on 19 October 2024.

The World Luxury Awards are the pinnacle of recognition for the global luxury hospitality industry, committed to recognising and rewarding excellence, and this year chose Galgorm to host one of two prestigious ceremonies.

Located in the heart of Northern Ireland and set within 450 acres of gardens and woodlands, Galgorm has carved out a reputation as one of the world’s premier, luxury destinations. Following investments of more than £60million since 2010 and a further £30million to expand and enhance the resort and spa facilities by 2027, it is renowned as a world-class international tourism destination choice for visitors from across the globe.

Colin Johnston, Managing Director of Galgorm said: “We are very honoured to have won six awards for Galgorm including two worldwide accolades for both our hotel and our Thermal Spa Village at The World Luxury Awards this year.

To enjoy incredible success at such a high-profile awards is true recognition of our significant investment, our focus on delivering an unrivalled guest experience and the hard work and dedication of our talented team at Galgorm.

We are also delighted with the tremendous success of hosting the World Luxury Awards this year and to be recognised ourselves during this successful evening. It’s been a privilege to welcome the very best from the global luxury hospitality industry to Northern Ireland. This event has truly highlighted what our region can offer, strengthening our commitment to promoting tourism and delivering exceptional experiences.

We’re very proud to have showcased Northern Ireland’s outstanding hospitality, further enhancing its reputation as a premier destination for international visitors.”

Anton Perold, Managing Director of the World Luxury Awards said: "These events are a testament to the dedication and passion of the luxury establishments that continue to set new standards of excellence. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants."

John McGrillen, CEO of Tourism Northern Ireland, said: “The World Luxury Awards 2024 taking place at Galgorm, along with the associated destination event, was a wonderful opportunity for Northern Ireland to show what it has to offer to the luxury hospitality market worldwide.

The last time the awards were hosted at Galgorm, attendees stayed an average of five days in the region and it is anticipated it will be the same this time around.

Having so many luxury operators from around the world visit Northern Ireland gave the region the opportunity to shine as the sustainable, inclusive and innovative year-round world-class destination that it is.”

Bridging the Skills Gap: NI Hospitality School Secures 36 Jobs for Graduates in Ballymena

NI Hospitality School Joins Forces with Private Business Securing 36 Jobs

Jobs Secured by Graduates in Ballymena via NI Hospitality School to Tackle Skills Development and Employment Deficit in Sector.

A TOTAL of 36 individuals from the Ballymena area are celebrating this week after graduating from the NI Hospitality School and securing full-time employment within local award-winning hotels.

The NI Hospitality School was established in 2021, following collaboration between three Ballymena-based hotels – Galgorm Resort, the Tullyglass House Hotel and the Adair Arms. With courses delivered by Northern Regional College and South Eastern Regional College, the school was set up to provide opportunities for skills development, to address the challenges of recruiting staff and to highlight that a career in hospitality can offer a plethora of rewarding career development opportunities.

Initially funded by independent charity, The Gallaher Trust, the NI Hospitality School has successfully attracted private sector funding from several high-profile organisations including Henderson Foodservice and Britvic Ireland, which is a demonstration of commitment from the wider sector.

According to Eddie McKeever, Managing Director of McKeever Hotel Group and Chairman of the NI Hospitality School, the initiative has far exceeded its goal and is playing an essential role in elevating skills and helping to secure the sector’s future.

“At the NI Hospitality School, we recognise the significant challenges the industry faces, particularly around recruitment and developing a sustainable and highly skilled workforce,” explained Eddie.

“Through targeted training and support, we’re working to bridge these gaps by equipping individuals with the expertise and confidence needed to maintain a thriving career within the hospitality sector. By creating opportunities for meaningful employment and continuous professional development, we’re ensuring that both employees and employers have the tools they need to succeed, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and dynamic hospitality industry in Northern Ireland.

“I would like to pay homage to The Gallaher Trust, whose initial funding enabled the NI Hospitality School to come to fruition. The fact that we have now attracted funding from the private sector is evidence of the enhanced reputation and success of the school since it was established three years ago. A number of businesses within the private sector have recognised the importance of securing a pipeline of future talent and we are truly very grateful for their support. We are looking forward to the future of the school and to providing greater benefits to our participants and to the hospitality industry as a whole.”

The NI Hospitality School encompasses a number of academies including a bar academy, a chef academy and a food service academy.

Formerly a Chef, Skye Hanley aged 23 from Ballymena, is an NI Hospitality School food service academy graduate, who has pivoted her career and now works in a guest facing role as a Food and Beverage Assistant in Gillies Grill and Elements at Galgorm Resort.

“Transitioning from working in the kitchen to a guest facing role has been a very rewarding experience,” she said.

“The training I received at the NI Hospitality School gave me the confidence and skills I needed to thrive in my new role. Taking part in the course has shown me the wealth of growth opportunities that are available to me – I’m really excited for my future.”

New 15-Acre Woodland Project Completed at Galgorm Resort

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, in collaboration with Galgorm Resort and The Woodland Trust Northern Ireland’s Emergency Tree Fund, proudly announces the creation of a magnificent 15-acre woodland at Galgorm.

Through this ambitious project, 7,500 native trees, including Irish oak, hazel, birch, wild cherry, and others, have been meticulously planted. This diverse mix of species forms a vital protective buffer for Galgorm Wood, one of Ireland's precious ancient woodlands nestled along the River Maine between Galgorm Resort and Cullybackey.

Ancient woodlands, continuously thriving since 1660, are a rarity in Ireland, harbouring a rich tapestry of ground flora. This unique ecosystem offers visitors an enchanting experience, showcasing rare flowers and plants in their natural habitat.

The newly established woodland is set to significantly enhance local wildlife habitats. It provides essential nesting and feeding sites for birds, shelter for mammals, and a rich source of pollen for pollinators. These native trees are perfectly adapted to bolster the local ecosystem, ensuring its resilience and diversity.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Alderman Beth Adger MBE, expressed her enthusiasm: "It’s fantastic that the Council is demonstrating its climate commitment through initiatives like this Climate Canopy project. This woodland will benefit not only our generation but will provide beauty and enjoyment to people and vital habitat for wildlife for hundreds, if not thousands, of years."

This initiative forms part of Galgorm Resort’s broader commitment to being fully carbon neutral by 2030, pledging to be the first premier hospitality group on the island of Ireland to go fully green.  Galgorm’s dedication to a sustainable future was further unscored by being awarded with Green Tourism and Green Meetings Gold credentials.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is dedicated to furthering such impactful projects. Funding is available for additional initiatives on sites larger than 0.5 acres. For more information and guidance, please call 07552250257 or email trees@midandeastantrim.gov.uk.

Gracehill achieves UNESCO World Heritage

Gracehill Moravian Settlement

Nestled on the outskirts of Ballymena, near Galgorm and tucked away from the main road, lies the remarkable Moravian settlement of Gracehill, waiting to be explored. Founded by the Moravian Church in 1759, Gracehill holds the distinction of being Northern Ireland's first Conservation Area. It is uniquely the only complete Moravian settlement in Ireland, boasting a well-preserved collection of buildings and an active Moravian community. The village’s structured layout and distinctive Georgian architecture have remained largely unchanged since the 18th century.

For the past two decades, local residents have campaigned tirelessly to protect and promote Gracehill's unique heritage. Their efforts have been rewarded with Gracehill being recognised as Northern Ireland’s first UNESCO Cultural World Heritage site.

The Moravian Church Settlements Transnational World Heritage site consists of 4 component parts: Herrnhut in Saxony, Germany; Bethlehem in Pennsylvania, United States; Christiansfeld in Southern Jutland, Denmark; and Gracehill in Northern Ireland, UK.

All World Heritage sites are understood to have ‘Outstanding Universal Value’. They are considered important not only to local people or to a country but to the world – to all of humanity. Gracehill was the first Conservation Area designated in Northern Ireland in 1974, so it has been considered a place of special architectural and historic interest by the Government of Northern Ireland for a long while. Its fine state of preservation also suggests that it has been appreciated by its own residents and surrounding community for much longer than that. World Heritage, however, is something altogether greater. This means that the international community, in the form of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has included a site on a list of the most important historic and natural places on earth.

To learn more about Gracehill's journey to UNESCO status, visit

.

In the coming years, visitor infrastructure will be enhanced to accommodate increased tourism. Meanwhile, visitors are welcome to take a self-guided tour around the village to appreciate its unique buildings and architecture, or an official guided tour by a certified tour guide (

).

Highlights include:

  • Gracehill Old School: Dating back to 1765, this building now hosts a welcoming restaurant, a Museum Room, and a Schoolroom. The Museum Room details the history of the Gracehill settlement and features an exhibition of lacework. The building is fully accessible for individuals with disabilities.
  • The Moravian Church and God’s Acre: Central to the village, the church is accompanied by a burial ground known as God’s Acre, divided by a central path into two plots – men to the left and women to the right. Reflecting the Moravian belief in equality in death, all headstones are of the same shape and design, laid nearly flat on the ground.

Top Five Reasons for a Resort Wedding

Whether engaged or simply wistfully dreaming of what your ideal Wedding Day will be like, it’s almost certain you have considered the minor detail of potential venues. Choosing a destination is no easy task and couples are now more than ever spoiled for choice when it comes to venues; barns, castles, hotels, even music halls, the list goes on! While aesthetics play a major role, have you considered the onsite amenities, customer service and accessibility for your guests? To assist you with your decision making we have pulled together just a few reasons why you should consider a full-service resort wedding.

1. Convenience

It is safe to say that every couple hopes to reminisce in years to come on the day they invited their nearest and dearest to celebrate the moment you said “I Do’. Savour quality time with your loved ones, particularly those who have travelled great distances, by having one central location for your guests to stay. With 125 rooms including suites, deluxe, superior and standard rooms as well as self-catering cottages, shepherd's huts and log cabins, Galgorm offers accommodation to suit each and every type of guest. Afford yourself the peace of mind that with fewer moving pieces, there is less chance of mistakes being made.

2. Ceremony Rooms

Why not try somewhere more unusual for your wedding ceremony? Galgorm is home to two stunning and equally unique venues offering a magical backdrop for a civil ceremony or exchange of vows. Hosting your ceremony and celebrating your wedding reception mere yards away from one another minimises the moving pieces and allows your guests to virtually forget about their car keys for the day, focusing entirely on embracing your fairytale romance. Make the most of the time you have saved travelling between venues and have your wedding photography complemented by the stunning grounds of Galgorm. Our selection of trusted suppliers are specialists at delivering those lesser-known Galgorm shots guaranteed to wow time and time again, all seasons considered.

The traditional Phantom House nestles against the backdrop of ancient rolling woodland and gently flowing waterfalls, boasting original stonework, Aga fires and a private balcony overlooking the river. The Ghost House offers a completely magical setting, adorned with elegant drapes, and twinkling candles. Both locations offer outdoor options for the brighter seasons and are the ultimate in timeless romance.

3. On-site Pampering

During the final few days in the run-up to the main event, the last thing you wish to be doing is frantically traveling from A to B all in the name of pre-wedding pampering. Relax and unwind in the serene surroundings of Ireland’s first award-winning Thermal Spa Village. Gather your thoughts as the flurry of excitement builds and take some time to embrace a moment of tranquillity in the most beautiful, calming surroundings our our three different spa gardens. If it's time for two you desire, relax and unwind post-wedding with a private Bathing Experience. Nestled among the olive trees and apple orchard of the Walled Garden or alongside the River Maine.

4. Stress-Free Planning

More often than not, your dream Resort can offer a range of all-inclusive packages, particularly beneficial when organising a wedding from afar. At Galgorm, our team of highly experienced Wedding Planners have devised a number of packages that draw on the experience of selective and highly respected experts in their field. After all, planning is part of the experience so ensure you soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the fun stuff while rest assured that every detail is being taken care of.

5. Experienced and Devoted Staff

Last, but certainly not least, rest assured that from the moment you inquire about hosting one of the most memorable events of your life, each intricate detail will be taken care of in a manner of sheer professionalism, with each member of staff devoted to ensuring a successful event. Your Resort will be no stranger to hosting weddings and yet you will feel as though your celebrations are as unique as your love for one another.

Galgorm Collection unveils groundbreaking new loyalty scheme in Northern Ireland: A new chapter in Luxurious Loyalty

Galgorm Rewards employs digital tech to elevate the guest experience into 2024 and beyond with an unrivalled rewards programme across its entire portfolio

Galgorm Collection, renowned for its legacy in luxury hospitality, has officially launched a new, groundbreaking loyalty initiative, Galgorm Rewards.

As the first of its kind for a Northern Irish independent hospitality group, this programme encompasses the Galgorm Collection portfolio; Galgorm, the Rabbit Hotel & Retreat, The Old Inn, and the esteemed Fratelli and Parisien restaurants in Belfast.

Creating endless opportunities to save, the new ‘Galgorm Rewards’ programme redefines guest experiences, creating a seamless and rewarding journey across all properties, enabling registered visitors and guests to unlock real value and new possibilities when they redeem their points for a variety of Galgorm Collection reward vouchers which they can use themselves.

Designed with simplicity in mind, the loyalty programme is complimentary to join, meaning every visit now comes with the added allure of earning points towards exclusive rewards. Guests can start to enjoy the benefits when they register, with 1 point gained for every £1 spent across any of its hotels or venues. Rewards span across all properties and can vary from either a pampering spa day to an exquisite dining experience or a serene retreat.

Effective immediately, the new loyalty programme means visitors and guests can check their balance and redeem their Galgorm Rewards at any time. The App is available to download at the Apple App Store and through Google Play.

Elaine Kelly, Project and Systems Manager at Galgorm Collection said, "At Galgorm Collection, we believe that every guest should be treated to a remarkable and memorable experience. Galgorm Rewards is our way of thanking our valued guests by adding an extra layer of joy to their visits. It's our gift—a token of appreciation for choosing us. The groundbreaking initiative is safe, simple and easy to use so that our guests can enjoy more of what they like most.

As the region’s first independent hotel group to introduce a digital loyalty reward scheme, our newest innovation underpins our reputation as a future-focused market leader committed to delivering hospitality excellence in every area.”

The new initiative marks the latest in a series of major milestones across the entire Galgorm Collection.

In December, Galgorm was named as the best UK Spa at the AA Hotel Spa awards, with its thermal village gaining the award due to its exceptional and exemplary spa standards and outstanding wellness experiences. It also won an unprecedented six awards at the prestigious 2023 World Luxury Awards hosted in Athens and secured the Best Destination Spa 2024 title at the recent Conde Nast Johansens Awards in London.

One of its newest properties, the Old Inn in Crawfordsburn, a historic landmark exuding timeless sophistication, became its latest venue to secure AA 4 Star Silver rating and a prestigious AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence. Since being acquired by Galgorm Collection in 2021, The Old Inn has already achieved a listing within Ireland’s Blue Book 2023 and was also named in the Irish Independent’s ‘FAB 50’ Top Stays in Ireland 2022.

“At Galgorm Collection, we listen to the needs of our guests and then innovate to ensure their experience is the best it can be – and there is plenty to enjoy,” Galgorm Collection Group Marketing Manager Victoria Brown said. “As we continue our focus on innovation, pushing the boundaries in loyalty and service, our new Galgorm Rewards programme marks an important milestone in our growth and in enhancing our guests’ overall experience every time."

Galgorm Collection also became the first hospitality group on the island of Ireland to achieve official ‘Great Place to Work’ certification, based on exceptional employee experience.

A major local employer, Galgorm Collection has dramatically scaled up its hospitality footprint and workforce over the last decade following a £90 million investment into the ongoing expansion and refurbishment of its flagship property Galgorm, with its latest investment project aiming to add new accommodation types and spa facilities by 2027.

Committed to working towards a sustainable future, protecting the environment, and reducing its carbon footprint through its Green Policy 10-Point Plan, Galgorm recently became the first hotel in Northern Ireland to achieve gold in two top sustainability accolades from Green Tourism in recognition of its “exceptional commitment to sustainable practices.”
