Bridal Beauty - Inspired by the Seasons

Bridal Beauty

Make-up is very personal.  You know what you like and how you are used to seeing yourself.  A wedding day is not a day to start experimenting with your look!  You’ll want to look back at photos in years to come and say “yes, I looked like myself”, and you’ll also want your other half to recognise you as you walk up the aisle!

In saying that, textures and tones of make-up can be tweaked slightly depending on the time of year you get married.  If you’re having a Spring or Summer wedding, you’ll undoubtedly pick a dress that doesn’t feel too heavy in case (fingers crossed) you get a scorcher of a day.  You’ll probably choose more floating fabrics and possibly opt for spring pastels, or bright pops of colour for your bridesmaid’s dresses and flowers.

So, the products you use on your face should reflect the time of year too.  The heat is something to bear in mind for a Spring/Summer wedding, so wearing a light SPF is advisable on both your face and shoulders/arms.  Botanics Hydration Burst Day Lotion SPF 15 is a light cream that is suitable for all skin types and will give a boost of hydration under your make-up, plus it’s an absolute bargain at only £4!  As it’s more likely to be sunny for a Spring/Summer wedding, you’ll want to look sun-kissed and radiant.  Lighter textured foundations will give coverage, but look dewy and fresh.  I’m a big fan of Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint.  It’s a hydrating but oil-free foundation, that gives a light to medium coverage.  It also contains light-reflecting particles for a healthy glow AND has an SPF 15 so can double up for protection!  Lastly, a pop of colour on the lips in the form of a gloss or sheer lipstick will be very seasonal.  I really like the texture of Nars lip glosses, and it’s hard to beat colours such as Chihuahua, Giza or Salamanca.

For an Autumn/Winter wedding, straight away I think of more cosy fabrics, hearty warming foods and deep shades of colours in flowers.  From a makeup point of view, coverage of foundation doesn’t necessarily have to be heavier, but a more velvet finish foundation looks really beautiful against the richness of Autumn/Winter.  I love By Terry Cover-Expert Perfecting Fluid Foundation.  It gives a medium coverage and has a “skin mimetic” property to adapt to your skin tone.  Matte shadows on the eyes will give more depth to colour, whilst making the skin look smoother.  And satin textures on the lips will create a little more drama for photos.  Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks have a gorgeous finish to them and come in a range of sumptuous nudes, reds, and plums.  Perfect for a Winter pout!
