Preparing For Your Make-Up Trial | Jennifer Ireland

Galgorm styled www.galgorm.com_v2

It’s the home stretch! You’ve just a few months left to the Big Day and it’s time to book in your trials and final meetings with your suppliers. Exciting!

As most of your wedding suppliers will be sole traders, their busiest times will be on the weekends with actual weddings, so those final meetings are usually held midweek or in the evenings (if your supplier can accommodate an evening appointment).

With regards to make-up, I always advise that they are best held in the morning or early afternoon, as this is more representative of the time of day it will actually be applied on the wedding day, and therefore allows you to see it in bright natural daylight, and also test the staying power as the day goes on.

I usually book trials in for around 4-6 weeks before the Big Day, and will do my best to accommodate brides on a day where they maybe have their hair trial or a dress fitting also booked in. This is a nice way to see a few of the final elements together before the wedding day.

If possible, come to your trial bare faced. This will not only save time, but also reduce the risk of over working the skin with unnecessary cleansing. Also, if you plan to wear fake tan, try and have an application before the trial so your make-up artist can best match the foundation and overall palette. If you’re naturally very pale, the tone of blush, lipstick and eyeshadow will change quite dramatically compared to when you are bronzed up. Lastly, wear a white or pale cream top to the trial. This will hep give an idea as to how the make-up will look against the overall tone of your wedding dress.

At trials, I sit my brides down with a cuppa and we chat all about timings to ensure the wedding morning runs smoothly. We then move on to talking about the bride’s skin, as her skin type and what we use to prep. with can make all the difference to how her application looks and lasts. Finally, we move on to the make-up and chat through what she is used to wearing, and what type of look she’d like for the day. Personally, I don’t feel it’s a day to start experimenting, but we of course will ensure she looks her most polished and radiant, and more importantly, like herself.
