The European Tour, LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour will join forces for another innovative mixed tournament at the ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by Modest! Golf Management in Northern Ireland, hosted by Galgorm from July 28 – August 1, 2021.

The European Tour, LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour will join forces for another innovative mixed tournament at the ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by Modest! Golf Management in Northern Ireland, hosted by Galgorm from July 28 – August 1, 2021.

The agreement heralds an exciting new chapter for the event, which has been elevated to European Tour status following a hugely successful inaugural edition on the European Challenge Tour in 2019. The 2021 event will continue to be played over two courses, Galgorm Castle and Massereene and will form part of the European Tour’s 2021 UK Swing, taking in tournaments in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England across July and August.

It will be the first time an event of this format is tri-sanctioned by the European Tour, LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour in the northern hemisphere – following in the footsteps of the ISPS HANDA Vic Open in Australia which has the same format.

The ISPS HANDA World Invitational will attract a field of 288 players, 144 men and 144 women. The women’s field will be split equally between the LPGA and the Ladies European Tour. The $2.35 million purse will be split evenly, with men and women competing for two equal prize funds.

The tournament will count towards the European Tour’s Race to Dubai and carry Team Europe Ryder Cup points, while the women’s tournament will count towards the Race to the CME Globe for women on the LPGA Tour, the Race to Costa del Sol on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and Solheim Cup points for both Team Europe and Team USA.

Following the recent successes of the Open Championship at Royal Portrush in 2019 and last year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Galgorm, I have no doubt this event will further strengthen Northern Ireland’s reputation for delivering high-profile international competitions.

“It is my hope that the situation with Covid 19 restrictions will improve sufficiently to allow as many spectators as possible to attend the event. However, as the event will reach hundreds of millions of homes across the globe, I am delighted that once again Northern Ireland will get the opportunity to show the world that it is made for golf.”

A traditional 72-hole stroke play format will be in place with men and women competing at two venues, Galgorm Castle Golf Club and Massereene Golf Club, over the first two days before a halfway cut reduces the field to the top 60 professionals, including ties, in the men’s and women’s draws.

The third round will take place at Galgorm Castle before a further 54-hole cut takes place with the top 35 and ties from the men’s and women’s draws advancing to the final round on Sunday.

A new pro-only pre-qualifier event for men and women will take place ahead of the tournament in June with further details to follow, while Golf Ireland’s Ulster Stroke Play Championship will provide elite amateurs with the opportunity to qualify and compete in this ground-breaking event. Amateurs will be able to enter for the Ulster Strokeplay Championship through the Golf Ireland website.

With extensive live coverage via Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland plus international broadcasters globally, the ISPS HANDA World Invitational will enjoy a daily global audience in the region of 640 million, with a unique reach into Asia and North America due to the demand for LPGA coverage in these markets.

Tournament golf has been played at Galgorm for over a decade with the first Northern Ireland Open hosted at the Ballymena venue in 2010. Since then the tournament has evolved and grown every year to now become one of the most visible events in world golf. After last year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, the 2021 ISPS HANDA World Invitational has an exciting new dimension as an LPGA Tour sanctioned event.

Players will once again compete at Massereene over the first two days. The Fred W. Hawtree designed parkland is one of Northern Ireland’s oldest venues dating back to 1895.

Sleep is just like anything else in the body – it is a natural state and has to be prioritised and taken care of to function well.

Making sure your body has a chance to rest and recover from the day is important for your immune system to function at full strength.

“To ensure you fall asleep with ease and wake up feeling rejuvenated, there are three vital things to consider”, Dr Neil Stanley recommends.

A Quiet Mind

An important thing for getting to sleep is to go to bed when you are sleepy, as opposed to forcing it. Feeling tired is the result of 1) being the right time for you to sleep, according to your internal circadian clock and 2) how long you have been awake.

What is our ‘circadian rhythm’?

Circadian rhythms are 24-hour cycles that are part of the body’s internal clock, running in the background to carry out essential functions and processes. One of the most important and well-known circadian rhythms is the sleep-wake cycle. Your circadian rhythm helps control your daily schedule for sleep and wakefulness.

In order to achieve a quiet mind and a relaxed body, it is helpful to establish a regular, relaxing, bedtime routine. You need to put the cares and worries of the day to bed a long before you get into bed.

Routine

A bedtime routine signals to the body that it is time for sleep. You should endeavour to spend at least 30 minutes winding down before bed.

For the best chance to sleep well, you should follow a ritual to relax both the body and mind. Our work with Dr Tara Swart, a doctor of neuroscience and Senior Lecturer at MIT, suggests that adopting an aromatherapy ritual will rewire the brain to associate that time, smell and practice with a specific feeling.

This begs the question; how can we get achieve skin equilibrium this Winter? Well, this has always been a big task as we constantly move from the outdoors to indoors and not to mention the central heating, wind chills and rain we have to contend with. While it may seem daunting, we can turn this around with the right products and skincare regime to target problem skin concerns.  

The first rule is not to overcomplicate things. Skincare routines should first and foremost be simple and easy to follow. Sometimes we’re told to use 10 different creams depending on the time of day and how many times a week which can get very confusing. The European Tour today announced the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open will be played in Northern Ireland for the Fourth Time since 2012 when Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort hosts this year's tournament on the Galgorm Castle course from September 24 -27.

The European Tour today announced the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open will be played in Northern Ireland for the fourth time since 2012 when Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort hosts this year’s tournament on the Galgorm Castle course from September 24-27.

It will be the first time the County Antrim venue has hosted the island of Ireland’s national Open with the event moving into the date vacated by the rescheduling of The 2020 Ryder Cup to 2021.

The 2020 Ryder Cup would have been a celebration of Irish golf with three-time Major Champion Padraig Harrington captaining Europe in the contest at Whistling Straits – the third European Captain from the island of Ireland in the past four contests. While that will now happen next September, the 2020 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Galgorm this September will mark a new chapter in the tournament’s history.

The 2020 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open was originally scheduled to take place at Mount Juliet Estate in County Kilkenny from May 28-31, but was postponed on March 30 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

With quarantine restrictions for travellers into the Republic of Ireland ongoing and the ban on mass gatherings still in place, the European Tour made the decision to move the tournament to Northern Ireland where it will be subject to similar guidelines to the current ‘UK Swing’ events, including being played behind closed doors. Planning remains on-going for the tournament to return to Mount Juliet in 2021 providing all health guidelines in place at that time can be met.

Following the changes to the date and the venue, allied to the overall disruption to the schedule, the 2020 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open will have a prize fund of €1.25 million and therefore will not be part of the Rolex Series. The European Tour will announce full plans for the Rolex Series in due course.

The Dubai Duty Free Irish Open will, however, continue to drive Ireland’s status as a future Ryder Cup host country, the synergy even stronger given the fact that now, the centenary of The Ryder Cup and the centenary of the Irish Open both fall in 2027.

Keith Pelley, European Tour Chief Executive, said: “The Dubai Duty Free Irish Open is an integral part of the European Tour’s schedule and despite the obvious challenges of staging any event in the current circumstances, we felt it was important to continue with the tournament providing we could do so safely.

“We did that, first and foremost with the support of Colm McLoughlin and everyone involved with our title sponsor Dubai Duty Free who once again showed commitment and understanding of the current global situation, and proved what a wonderful partner of the European Tour they are. We also did it with the support of the Northern Ireland Executive who deserve our sincere thanks.

“With the ongoing restrictions in the Republic of Ireland, we opted to move the tournament to Northern Ireland and are extremely grateful to Gary Henry and everyone at Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort for stepping up to host us.

“I also want to thank Damien Gaffney and everyone at Mount Juliet, our original venue. Everyone at the Kilkenny course was ready to host the tournament this year until circumstances outside their control made that an impossibility. Hopefully, things will be different next year to allow us to return.”

Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort has hosted the Northern Ireland Open on the European Challenge Tour since 2013, including last year’s innovative tournament – the ISPS Handa World Invitational Men|Women presented by Modest! Golf Management which featured both a men’s and women’s competition.

Despite hosting the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open from September 24-27, the County Antrim venue will continue its involvement with the Challenge Tour by also hosting the Northern Ireland Open hosted by The R&A from September 3-6.

The Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort is the fourth time the tournament has been played in Northern Ireland since 2012 when Royal Portrush became the first course north of the Irish border to host the tournament since 1953.

Welshman Jamie Donaldson claimed his maiden European Tour title on that occasion before the event returned to Northern Ireland in 2015, when Dane Søren Kjeldsen won at Royal County Down, and in 2017 when Spain’s Jon Rahm triumphed at Portstewart Golf Club, the first of his two Irish Open victories to date.

Northern Ireland’s premier luxury hotel and spa destination, Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort, has unveiled its new, dramatically enhanced Thermal Village and Spa provision, representing an investment of more than £2 million into the popular Resort’s tourism credentials.

Work on the expansion project commenced in March this year after closing its doors in line with government safety restrictions.

The newly-reopened Resort now boasts a suite of new attractions for spa guests, including a 10 metre infinity pool on the shores of the River Maine, a 200m2 Palm House relaxation area encompassing six heated loungers, and a brand new Salt Room for halotherapy experiences.

With over 90 per cent of its Thermal Village and Spa offering located outdoors, Galgorm has also installed two group hot tubs and saunas, three additional private hot tubs with waterfall views and six brand new riverside cabanas.

Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort has officially opened its doors to the Resort's newly refurbished entertainment offering, McKendry's Lounge Bar.

Formerly known as Gillies Bar & Grill, McKendry's is now a whiskey lover's haven, boasting an encyclopedic whiskey collection of over 300 blends from 21 countries, including a coveted limited-edition bottle of the most expensive Irish whiskey ever produced, "The Chosen".

The new whiskey lounge/bar reflects the warm ambience and atmosphere of an eclectic Irish pub and draws on its local heritage, harking back to the much-loved McKendry's bar of a bygone era, which served the local community from its premises in Broughshane Street, Ballymena before closing its doors.

Welcoming Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort's newest hospitality investment, Colin Johnston, Galgorm Collection Managing Director, said;

Offering guests the warm welcome synonymous with Galgorm, the new name perfectly connects the Resort with its strong local heritage. Much of the décor consists of historical items from the original McKendry's bar and provides guests with an authentic Irish bar experience.

As well as boasting some rare whiskeys and stocking the finest mixers, Galgorm has devised a new signature whiskey cocktail list to compliment its existing range of premium cocktails, wines, beers and spirits.

For a truly authentic taste, guests can also sample the Resort's first premium own-label "Galgorm Estate Gin", developed in partnership with Northern Ireland's newest artisan gin producer, Copeland Distillery, and drink in the fantastic new line up of live entertainment.

McKendry's Lounge/Bar is open 12:00pm - 01:00am Sunday to Friday and 12:00pm - late on Saturdays, with live entertainment every evening, including traditional Irish music every Tuesday and Thursday night.

Galgorm Spa and Golf Resort today launched its first premium own-label gin, developed in partnership with Northern Ireland’s newest artisan gin producer, Copeland Distillery.

Using botanicals harvested from Galgorm Estate for an authentic local taste, Galgorm Estate Gin is the resort’s first house spirit.

It’s also the latest addition to its extensive gin menu, widely regarded as one of the most exclusive menus across the island of Ireland.

Launching from Friday 29 November, Galgorm Estate Gin is available within the Resort and across the Galgorm Collection Portfolio, including

Commenting on the partnership, Colin Johnston, Galgorm Collection Managing Director, said;

To celebrate, Galgorm has also launched an exciting cocktail menu for gin-lovers based on the new gin’s botanical flavours. Created by expert mixologists, each cocktail has been crafted to showcase the unique flavours of the gin and features a mix of exciting new concoctions along with a twist on the classics.

“Our dedicated Gin Library is home to over 450 different types of gins, making Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort a mecca for gin lovers. Copeland Distillery was established in 2016 and in this time has grown its production capacity and product range to include a range of Irish Gin, Single Malt and Pot Still Whiskey for local consumers and global export. The new collaboration represents a significant partnership for the distillery as it continues to push boundaries and produce innovative, quality spirits representing the ‘spirit’ of Northern Ireland.

As the days get shorter and the winds get chillier, we asked Tara Moore, Head of Spa Operations at the Resort, to share her three top tips for caring for your skin during the Winter months.

It’s time to wrap yourself up and get ready for winter, but how do we protect our skin from the cold chills and harsh winds?  Here are my top tips to keep you glowing throughout the winter months to ensure your skin is Spring ready for those warming first glimpses of Sun…..

Cleanse – With the elements taking their toll, avoid using soap-based cleansers which will dehydrate your skin further. Using a creamy textured cleanser will ensure that your skin stays as hydrated as possible during those cosy days spent on the sofa with an open fire.  I love to use Aromatherapy Associates Soothing Cleansing Balm to reduce redness and calm irritation, and SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser to ensure my skin is well cleansed whilst retaining moisture.

Exfoliate – We shed dead skin cells daily and we need a helping hand to ensure our living skin gets to shine through! You don’t need to scrub your skin to within an inch of it’s life to remove those cells, I use Aromatherapy Associates Rose Exfoliating Cleanser to gently remove impurities and polish my skin. I follow this up with SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator, a dual functioning serum that leaves my skin smooth and supple, and a little of this product really goes a long way.

Moisturise – Help to keep the moisture locked in by using key products best suited for your skin type, and layer products onto your skin to get the optimum benefits.  Bedtime is important as this gives your skin time to fully absorb the products and reap the benefits of the nutrients they contain whilst you rest. To complete my night time skincare routine, I apply one or two pumps of Aromatherapy Associates Hydrating Face Oil to my face and neck using my fingertips; then apply a few drops of SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5. This serum is ideal for all skin types, using hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture when your skin needs it most.

My top skincare tip is always to keep drinking lots of water, especially throughout the Winter months. it’s harder to do this when the weather is cool, so perhaps try some boiled water with lemon or some herbal teas, this means you are still getting the hydration but warming yourself up after that cold walk home from work!

Galgorm Resort & Spa has acquired the bar and restaurant at Galgorm Castle Golf Club marking the latest addition to their culinary portfolio

Galgorm Resort & Spa, Northern Ireland’s leading luxury hotel and wellness destination, confirmed that it has acquired the bar and restaurant at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. 

Representing an investment of £600k, the company has begun an extensive redevelopment and refurbishment exercise which will see the existing dining facilities expanded and upgraded to include a 150-seat restaurant as well as a 60-seat open-air balcony terrace providing unrivaled views across the Castle grounds and golf course.

The all-new restaurant is expected to open in early July and will see the creation of 50 new jobs across the food, beverage and front-of-house departments.  

Home to the NI Open 2018, Galgorm Castle Golf Club will attract some of the biggest names in golf this August and with the restaurant due to be open well ahead of the tournament, spectators will be treated to a food and beverage offering on par with some of the world’s leading courses.
