Netball Northern Ireland (Netball NI) is delighted to announce the extension of its partnership with Galgorm Collection, confirming a renewed three‑year agreement that reinforces a shared commitment to supporting local sport, community wellbeing and meaningful member engagement.

A valued supporter of Netball NI since 2022, Galgorm Collection continues to lead the way in its support of local sport. This extended collaboration builds on a strong and trusted relationship, united by a belief in the positive impact that sport and active lifestyles have across Northern Ireland.

The renewed alliance will ensure that Clubs have the resources necessary to operate effectively and will also continue to support Netball NI’s delivery of educational programmes and pathways at every level of the sport, from grassroots participation through to performance environments.

In addition, funding will support training costs for the National team known as the Warriors, as they prepare for a busy international calendar of fixtures including the Commonwealth Games, which are currently taking place in Glasgow. The Warriors are competing in Pool A alongside Australia, England, South Africa, Malawi and Tonga. The experienced team will also be hoping to make it to the World Cup, with qualifiers taking place later this year.

Karen Rollo‑Stewart, Chief Executive of Netball NI, welcomed the partnership extension, saying:

“We are incredibly proud to extend our partnership with Galgorm Collection, an organisation that has consistently demonstrated leadership in supporting local sport. Their long‑term commitment is invaluable to Netball NI and, importantly, delivers tangible benefits for our members including exclusive offers to promote players’ health and wellbeing. This partnership allows us to reward our netball community while continuing to invest in participation, development and performance across Northern Ireland.”

Galgorm Collection’s focus on excellence, wellbeing and community aligns strongly with Netball NI values, making the partnership a natural and impactful fit.

Georgie Briota, Business Development Manager at Galgorm Collection, commented:

“As a major employer with a team of over 1,400 staff across Northern Ireland, we see every day how sport can impact both people and associations, showing that teamwork and commitment really do get results. We are delighted to extend our relationship with Netball NI and continue our support for a sports body that makes such a positive difference across communities. Netball NI’s focus on inclusion, development and empowering people through sport closely reflects our own values.

“We would like to wish them all the very best for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and the Commonwealth Games, which they have qualified for on the last four occasions, and that is an amazing achievement. We’ll be behind them all the way.”

Netball NI looks forward to an exciting next chapter in this enduring partnership, continuing to work alongside Galgorm Collection to support the growth of netball and deliver meaningful benefits to its members.

Galgorm Collection is committed to supporting local communities which it does through charitable donations, educational partnerships and creative interactive initiatives for local schools and colleges, that showcase the wealth of careers in hospitality and inspire the next generation to take up one of the many rewarding roles in this sector.

The company is a major local employer and has dramatically scaled up its hospitality footprint and workforce over the last decade. As its growth continues, so does the company's unwavering commitment to both economic impact and community support.

The NI Legends event will return to Galgorm from September 4-6 as part of the new 2026 Staysure Legends Tour international schedule. Markus Brier is the defending champion after the Austrian defied the elements to complete his memorable win in 2025.

The world class over 50s senior tour has a brand new look for 2026 following the appointment of Staysure as the tour’s new title sponsor. The new Staysure Legends Tour has a new logo plus expanded international calendar with an exciting stop-off at Galgorm in September where it will be free entry for spectators.

The world class golf on show will include Ryder Cup captains, Major champions and proven Tour winners, alongside an exciting influx of new players. The Staysure Legends Tour continues to celebrate excellence built on experience and sustained performance at the highest level.

The Tour will also continue to offer amateur golfers the unique opportunity to play alongside legends of the game both in fun pro-am formats and competitive ‘tournament experience’ golf.

David Adams, Managing Director of the Staysure Legends Tour, said: “We’re incredibly excited to announce our 2026 schedule and to begin this new era as the Staysure Legends Tour. The breadth of the calendar, the quality of the venues and the global nature of the Tour reflect how far it has come. With tournaments across the UK and Ireland, Europe, America and Asia, encompassing three senior Majors and world-class destinations, 2026 promises to be a landmark season.”

Ryan Howsam, Chairman of both Staysure and the Staysure Legends Tour, added: “The Staysure Legends Tour represents the very best of the game’s experience and competitive spirit. Aligning Staysure with the Tour allows us to support a global sporting platform built on trust, quality and long-term ambition. The strengthened schedule and new identity reflect the direction of travel and the opportunities ahead.”

With a new title sponsor and events staged across the UK and Ireland, Europe, America, the Caribbean and Asia, the 2026 Staysure Legends Tour calendar underlines its truly global reach and growing international stature.

The season kicks off in February in Marbella, with a strong field at Aloha that includes home favourites José María Olazábal and Miguel Ángel Jiménez , before a return to Barbados at the end of April, where the Tour will visit the spectacular Apes Hill resort for a tournament hosted by Masters champion and 2006 Ryder Cup captain, Ian Woosnam.

The Legends Tour’s flagship event, the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, will once again be hosted by another household name and former Ryder Cup captain - Colin Montgomerie – who will resume host duties at the magnificent Trump International Resort in Aberdeen. The August event will be the first professional tournament to be played on the New Course, marking a significant milestone for both the venue and Scottish golf.

Fans can also look forward to three prestigious Major championships on the 2026 schedule. The Major season will begin with the Senior PGA Championship in Florida in April, followed by the US Senior Open in Ohio in July, before culminating in the ISPS HANDA Senior Open at Gleneagles in Scotland. Hosted at the iconic 2014 Ryder Cup venue, Gleneagles offers a historic and fitting stage for one of the most celebrated championships in the senior game, reinforcing the Tour’s connection to the sport’s most storied venues.

Further highlights include a co-sanctioned PGA Tour Champions event in Portugal at the end of July that will see many global stars playing at the Els Club in Vilamoura.

The announcement follows an outstanding 2025 season, which saw Australian Scott Hend, a multiple-time winner on the DP World Tour and Asian Tour, claim the season-long Order of Merit title after a dominant year.

The year also saw a number of rookies coming into contention alongside established names, underlining the depth, competitiveness and evolving profile of the Tour. This included the likes of Ryder Cup stars Jamie Donaldson, Stephen Gallacher and David Howell, as well as established DP World Tour stalwarts Johan Edfors, Anthony Wall, David Drysdale and Steve Webster, as well as Darren Fichardt, who was crowned Barry Lane Rookie of the Year in 2025 after a stellar season competing on both the Legends Tour and the DP World Tour.

Further updates to the 2026 schedule will be confirmed in due course.

Galgorm is delighted to announce one of the world’s leading short game coaches Dave Pelz will set up his Scoring Game School at the Northern Ireland venue to serve as one of his main European coaching hubs.

Pelz is one of golf’s most well-known coaches who has dedicated a large part of his life to analysing the golf swing and paying particular attention to the short game. Through his Scoring Game School and team of dedicated coaches, he has helped thousands of golfers improve their game.

The American has worked with the very best in the game to complete beginners and every time believes he can improve a player’s short game. Pelz’s most recognisable student is Phil Mickelson and he worked with the lefthander as he won his six majors. Pelz says 11 of the professionals he has worked with over the years have won 18 majors between them.

“I can’t tell you how much we are looking forward to working with Galgorm, it really is very exciting,” said Pelz, who will offer one day clinics to three-day Scoring Game Schools at the Ballymena venue in 2023.

“Galgorm has some of the best facilities in the country. It is a wonderful property and has so many great features that we can use for teaching The Scoring Game. The coaching team who visited Galgorm were very impressed with the entire setup.

“We all know about the many tour events staged at Galgorm on the DP World Tour, LPGA Tour and other tours. They have the wonderful Castle championship course, teaching academy plus the ‘wee course’, a six-hole par three layout that will be great for our teaching.”

The author of the highly acclaimed Dave Pelz’s Short Game Bible and Dave Pelz’s Putting Bible added: “We have specialised our coaching over the years. We love the game; we are all golfers and our family has been involved in the game for almost 50 years. We focus on the short game, wedges and putting. My background is in research. I used to be a research scientist working with NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center.”

In the early days, Pelz was a player with designs of making it on tour. He won a scholarship to Indiana University at the same time a certain Jack Nicklaus attended Ohio State University.

“My record against Jack was zero and 22 in direct competitions. I simply couldn’t beat the guy - nobody could,” said Pelz, who majored in physics. “I wanted to play golf for a living, tried to make it on tour but wasn’t good enough. As an analytical scientist, I set about trying to figure out why I wasn’t good enough. From that moment it’s been a 50-year journey of research and coaching in golf.”

As the only Pelz Scoring Game School in Northern Ireland, there will be at least two qualified coaches for the bespoke residential teaching schools and clinics at Galgorm. The Pelz philosophy is that up to 68 per cent of golf shots for golfers of all ability occur inside 125 yards and on the putting green, the area of the game he refers to as ‘The Scoring Game’.

Scoring Game Schools identify mechanical issues in any swing before fixing them. From there, coaches can start to fine-tune, work on timing, rhythm and provide golfers with the tools they need to improve their short game - and ultimately lower their scores. A lifetime of experience will now be available exclusively at Galgorm in 2023.

“We are delighted to be working Dave Pelz and his team to bring a world class coaching product here to Northern Ireland,” said Gary Henry, Galgorm Castle Managing Director. “Over the years we have built up a wonderful and wide-ranging golf product and it is entirely fitting that such a respected name as Dave Pelz and his Scoring Game School now have an Irish home here at Galgorm.

“Golfers of all ability from Ireland, the UK and elsewhere in Europe will have the chance to tap into the short game experience and expertise of the Dave Pelz method. In conjunction with the Dave Pelz team, we will be running residential clinics and schools from May 2023 and key dates are now available to book online at pelzgolf.com.”

Galgorm is recognised as Northern Ireland’s leading tournament venue, hosting 15 professional events in the last decade, including the 2020 Irish Open on the DP World Tour. Galgorm is also home to the $3 million ISPS HANDA World Invitational - a tri-sanctioned event between the DP World Tour, LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour – and the Northern Ireland Open.

First Minister Arlene Foster welcomes Galgorm's newest tourism investment as guests are safely welcomed back.

First Minister Arlene Foster welcomes Galgorm's newest tourism investment as guests are safely welcomed back.

Northern Ireland’s premier luxury hotel and spa destination, Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort, has unveiled its new, dramatically enhanced Thermal Village and Spa provision, representing an investment of more than £2 million into the popular Resort’s tourism credentials.

Work on the expansion project commenced in March this year after closing its doors in line with government safety restrictions.

The newly-reopened Resort now boasts a suite of new attractions for spa guests, including a 10 metre infinity pool on the shores of the River Maine, a 200m2 Palm House relaxation area encompassing six heated loungers, and a brand new Salt Room for halotherapy experiences.

With over 90 per cent of its Thermal Village and Spa offering located outdoors, Galgorm has also installed two group hot tubs and saunas, three additional private hot tubs with waterfall views and six brand new riverside cabanas.

First Minister, Arlene Foster, welcomed Galgorm’s return and its continued tourism investment:

“A world leader for local tourism, Galgorm is undoubtedly a premier destination and, with more people choosing to vacation at home this summer, this investment into its award-winning spa facilities is timely and welcomed.

A major player in the local, national and international tourism industry, Galgorm has continually demonstrated their commitment to Northern Ireland, leading and innovating with the supported development of its team in skills and best practice training.

As our tourism and hospitality industry focuses on rebuilding, it is encouraging to see one of the best-known businesses continue to invest and innovate, bolstering the recovering economy and cementing its reputation as a world-class destination.”

The new Spa expansion project is the latest venture in Galgorm’s investment into the Resort. Over the last decade, the premier estate has undergone a £60 million transformation and there are further plans to invest an additional £20 million by 2025.

Colin Johnston, Galgorm Collection Managing Director, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome the First Minister to Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort to see the dramatic transformation of our Thermal Village & Spa and to experience first-hand all of the comprehensive safety and hygiene measures we have in place for the health and wellbeing of our team and guests.

As an internationally renowned luxury resort, we are continually seeking ways to enhance the guest experience, and with the closure of The Resort in March, we had the opportunity to further invest and expand.

In addition, and as a priority, we focused on implementing safety measures throughout the Resort and we are delighted to be among the first hotels in the UK to receive the coveted AA COVID Confident Mark for our commitment to safety.

It’s fantastic to see the Resort reopen for business and guests safely enjoying our new amenities and world-class facilities. For staycationers choosing a relaxing break at Galgorm, the experience really is unrivalled, and we look forward to welcoming existing and new guests through our doors this summer. We thank everyone for their continued support.

We are also delighted to announce that all existing jobs will be protected with the creation of 40 additional jobs throughout The Collection.”

In addition to the £2 million investment throughout The Resort, Galgorm Collection has recently completed the £2.5 million first phase at The Rabbit, formerly known as The Templeton.

Luxury resort expands offering with nature-inspired wellness retreat and enhanced in-room spa facilities.

Northern Ireland’s premier luxury hotel and spa resort Galgorm has announced a £3 million investment - unveiling a major guestroom refurbishment programme and plans for a nature-immersive Forest Spa Garden. These significant developments further enhance the resort’s world-renowned Thermal Spa Village and reinforces its commitment to investing in Northern Ireland’s growing tourism sector.

£2 million has been invested to renovate Galgorm’s six junior suites - which are now complete with private hot tubs on the balconies overlooking the River Maine - and to refurbish 45 superior rooms which are due for completion by July 2025. The upgrades blend modern luxury with Galgorm’s timeless aesthetic, enhancing guest comfort while elevating the spa experience.

Set to open in autumn 2025, a new Forest Spa Garden represents an additional £1million investment, designed to offer guests a deeper connection to nature. Located across the River Maine and opposite the existing Thermal Spa Village, this tranquil retreat will be nestled within the resort’s woodland area and feature four luxurious relax cabanas, three private hot tubs, a sauna, and serene forest walkways. A bespoke bridge will seamlessly connect the new Forest Spa Garden to the main spa, creating a fully immersive wellness journey.

Colin Johnston, Managing Director, Galgorm Collection, said:

“These investments allow us to push boundaries in creating exceptional guest experiences. The junior suites’ private balcony hot tubs offer guests a spa retreat within their own room, while the Forest Spa Garden introduces an entirely new way to relax and reconnect with nature. Our guests both from home and overseas can expect even more from Galgorm, and this latest chapter reflects our vision for world-class hospitality here in Northern Ireland.”

The new Forest Spa Garden will be open to all overnight and day spa guests, whilst also aimed at specifically providing an accessible wellness experience for guests staying in Galgorm’s newly opened Forest Dens, the resort’s unique eco-friendly accommodations which have quickly become a popular choice for those who want to combine luxury with an experience immersed in nature. This new development ensures that Forest Den guests can enjoy the same high standard of Galgorm’s Thermal Spa Village facilities close to their accommodation, offering convenience without compromising on luxury.

The Forest Dens, featured in The Irish Independent’s Fab 50 list of Ireland’s best places to stay in 2025, provide a distinctive combination of nature and comfort, with a private garden terrace, outdoor shower, wood-fired bath, and private sauna, nestled under a canopy of trees for the ultimate secluded retreat.

This latest investment forms part of Galgorm’s broader £40 million expansion strategy to 2027, reinforcing its role in growing and futureproofing Northern Ireland’s tourism and hospitality industry. The resort, the flagship property in the Galgorm Collection portfolio, has already seen over £60 million invested since 2010, whilst the hospitality group also recently announced it had acquired Galgorm Castle Estate in Ballymena and Roe Valley Resort in Limavady for a combined £28 million, committing an additional £22 million to enhance the properties and estates over the next five years. Galgorm Collection opened the £15m Rabbit Hotel & Retreat in Templepatrick, Co. Antrim in 2019, and in 2021 acquired and revamped The Old Inn in Crawfordsburn, complete with £2.5m outdoor Treetop Spa and enhanced accommodation and dining facilities.

Colin added;

“As international travel continues to rebound and domestic tourism flourishes, our focus remains on delivering premium, experience-led hospitality across our entire property portfolio. We are proud to contribute to the vibrancy of Northern Ireland’s tourism offering and look forward to welcoming even more guests from domestic and overseas markets to experience everything Galgorm has to offer.”

Galgorm’s Thermal Spa Village, a highlight of the resort, continues to attract international recognition, with recent accolades including Best Spa Experience 2025 at the prestigious Condé Nast Johansens Awards, Best Luxury Golf Resort Spa at the 2024 World Luxury Awards, and Best Luxury Riverside Resort in Northern Europe at the 2023 World Spa & Wellness Awards.

Galgorm is delighted to announce a new long-term partnership with rising star Tom McKibbin, who will represent Northern Ireland’s internationally acclaimed Spa & Golf Resort as its new Touring Professional.

McKibbin has been making headlines for several years as a sensational amateur golfer, who has won prestigious tournaments around the world and represented Ireland from a young age. In April, the 18-year-old turned professional and made his professional debut at the Tenerife Open on the European Tour.

McKibbin will compete in several European Challenge Tour and full European Tour events for the remainder of the season. The Belfast golfer played out of Holywood Golf Club, the same club as Rory McIlroy and is now embarking on his own professional journey in the paid ranks.

“I am delighted to become one of the touring professionals for Ireland’s premier Spa & Golf destination. I have a long-standing relationship with the team, who have been extremely supportive of me during my amateur career so this partnership was a natural fit as I embark on my professional journey. The facilities are internationally renowned and it is an honour to be associated with a prestigious brand like Galgorm.” explained McKibbin.

The 2020 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open was held at Galgorm and The Resort also boasts a luxurious hotel with a range of accommodation, several restaurants and the awarding-winning Thermal Spa Village.

“I have competed at Galgorm many times as an amateur in events like the Northern Ireland Open and the 2019 ISPS HANDA World Invitational. Having the right team and set-up is key and Galgorm is an important part of this for me.” said McKibbin.

McKibbin first came to prominence after winning prestigious titles at a young age. In 2015 he captured the World Junior Championship at Pinehurst in the US, a title also won by McIlroy when he was starting out. McKibbin recorded further wins in the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club and the Junior Honda Classic at PGA National in the US.

Gary Henry, Managing Director Galgorm Castle, said: “We are thrilled to be able to welcome Tom to Galgorm as our Touring Professional. He is a player with fantastic calibre, as we have seen throughout his amateur career, and we believe he will make waves in the professional ranks and wish him all the best.

“We see the partnership as a fantastic opportunity for both our brands. Galgorm is the perfect place for Tom to call home and develop his game around his tour events. Wherever Tom competes around the world, there is a natural link back to home here in Northern Ireland and is the perfect opportunity to profile that Northern Ireland is indeed Made For Golf.”

Galgorm Resort & Spa are delighted to have been crowned Ireland's Luxury Spa Village at the World Luxury Spa & Restaurant Awards 2017.

World Luxury Spa & Restaurant Awards Honour 2017 Winners

Galgorm Resort & Spa are delighted to have been crowned Ireland's Luxury Spa Village at the World Luxury Spa & Restaurant Awards 2017.

The scene is set; it’s a warm, exotic summer’s evening in Vietnam, the sun begins to set over the bustling and intriguing city of Hanoi, excited participants gather at the event of the year, the event that will later that night honour them as the crème da la crème of the luxury wellness and fine dining industries. Champagne flows, canapés travel on beautifully decorated trays to guests, and the air of anticipation grows. Proudly hosted by the spectacular JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi, who with a red carpet welcome invite over 180 guests from more than 50 countries to a dazzling evening of luxury, glamour, and style.

“Over 100,000 votes brought our winners here tonight; 100,000 times the public voiced their opinion on who of the 1,000 entrants are deserving of these accolades. Tonight we honour the staff of these fine establishments, who through their immeasurable service delivery have brought success to the proud brands of which they are a part.” says Marna Lourens, Executive Manager for the World Luxury Spa Awards.

Setting the basis for service industry standards around the globe, the World Luxury Spa Awards and World Luxury Restaurant Awards pride themselves on providing true recognition to luxury spas and restaurants in their relevant categories during its annual voting phase. Votes are garnered through various marketing channels from guests, showcasing yet again the true value of service excellence.

“The most coveted award on the evening is our Global Spa and Global Restaurant of the Year awards. Each year the task to determine these top establishments begins after voting has closed and we announce to our winners if they have been successful. We are six senior managers who take weeks to decide, as voting is not the only criteria we look at to bestow this prestigious award. A multitude of factors come in to play; brand, location, overall guest satisfaction from online reviews, services and facilities, design, and even menu offerings whether spa or restaurant. It is important to look at each establishment as an individual as well, some are on an island, some are in cities or in a desert, it is not always possible to compare apples with apples when defining luxury. This year the focus was on unique design with a touch of classy elegance, and we were as such proud to award Global Spa of the Year to Harnn Heritage Spa at InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort and Global Restaurant of the Year to Ithaa Undersea Restaurant at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. Both of whom encompass the ethos of luxury and supreme service.” says Joanna Evans, Marketing Communications Manager for the World Luxury Awards.

The evening was as glamorous as one would expect from a JW Marriott brand hotel; a delectable 6- course fine dining menu adorned each table throughout the night and was paired with fine wines and champagne from Moët et Chandon. Entertainment fitting of the destination included a Dragon Dance, a Vietnamese based string quartet performance by Độc Cầm - Toxic Quartet, and a local Ao Dai Dance, all of which added to the evening’s Asian flair.

“The food tonight was exceptionally impressive and has been during our entire stay at the hotel. Legendary Northern Ireland footballers who play golf will be hitting the fairways at Galgorm later this month in a celebrity Pro-Am competition.

The Legends Tour, formerly known as the European Senior Tour, is set to make its Northern Ireland debut at Galgorm’s Championship Castle Course from August 27-31, 2025. As part of the build-up to the tournament a team featuring nine Northern football legends will be competing against a team of sports and media legends in a celebrity pro-am and for the Galgorm Legends Cup on Wednesday 27 August.

The Northern Ireland team is shaping up to include the likes of Steven Davis, Stuart Dallas, Chris Brunt, Aaron Hughes, Jim Magilton, Tommy Wright and Gareth McAuley. The squad of sports and media legends is set to feature champion jockey Tony McCoy, actor Jimmy Nesbitt, former Ulster Rugby star Ian Humphreys, former Scotland and Lions rugby player Kenny Logan, radio presenter Pete Snodden, UTV sports reporter Ruth Gorman, ex-Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe plus GAA legends Sambo McNaughton and Oisin McConville, while former Newcastle United and Manchester City keeper Shay Given and World Superbikes star Jonny Rea could be late call-ups.

The two celebrity teams will play alongside legends of the fairways, including former Masters winner and world number one Ian Woosnam and a stellar field that includes Ryder Cup players and multiple tour winners such as Stephen Gallacher, David Howell, Peter Baker and Jean Van de Velde. The celebrity teams will be competing for the Galgorm Legends Cup and will compete in a team scramble format. Each team will have three fourballs, with nine Northern Ireland football legends and nine sports and media legends in each team. The winners of the Galgorm Legends Cup will have the lowest combined fourball scores.

As proud hosts of Ireland's first MLX Quartz Bed, Catherine gives us the need to know details on the ancient Greek concept of psammo therapy...

As a digital marketer, the majority of my working days are spent behind a luminous screen scouring the internet. A fairly hazard-free role you could say, and to some extent would be correct. However, it is not entirely without its repercussions (and I’m not talking about the flurry of dog memes all vying for my attention in any one afternoon). Bad posture and neck strain come part and parcel of desk-based roles. An early morning stretch and limber up for the day ahead regularly results in the sort of cracks less akin to that of someone in their early twenties. That was of course until a friend had suggested a massage. Really? I thought to myself. It all seemed a little self-indulgent and perhaps not something I truly needed or could justify treating myself to for that matter. After some persuasion (quite frankly, not a lot), I stand corrected. My name is Catherine and I am a Spa convert.

Enter the MLX Quartz Treatment Bed. “What’s that?” I hear you proclaim. Much like myself, when I was introduced to the concept, I was instinctively intrigued by this term that my colleagues had spoken so highly of. Derived from the Greek concept of psammo therapy, or hot sand therapy, the MLX Quartz is the modern take on a century-old approach to delivering the utmost in physical and holistic relaxation.

As it’s eponymously named component would suggest, Quartz beds are something of a luxury; a rare and restorative highway to relaxation. So with this in mind, once I had made my decision to book in for a full body massage, I knew I had to experience first hand for myself, just how truly special such treatments are. After all, Galgorm proudly house the first MLX Quartz Bed on the island of Ireland!

Fast Forward to Tuesday…

Having completed my pre-treatment questionnaire and feeling refreshed following a lemon & ginger tea (made all the sweeter by the accompaniment of two luxurious truffles), I was soon introduced to my Therapist. Now, as a self-confessed spa amateur, I can’t help but confess to being somewhat apprehensive of the treatment. Oh, how wrong I was! Upon meeting my Spa Therapist, the wonderful Zoe, any preconceived ideas of awkwardness were swiftly dispelled.

Upon entering the treatment room I was firstly amazed by the treatment table which houses the alpha quartz sand. Instantly I knew this would be something of a luxury and with the scent of essential oils in the air, instant relaxation ensued. A quick chat with Zoe revealed the format of the treatment which would include singing bowls and poultice. Stay with me on this one…

Now, you may be wondering how comfortable laying on a bed of quartz sand can be and I am here to confirm that it is truly a dream. Once laying upon the protective polyurethane layer the warmth of the hot sand instantly relaxes as your therapist intricately moulds the quartz sand around your body in order to support the contours of your body. In my cosy, relaxed state I was immediately transported to a warmer climate, cocooned on a warm sandy beach (albeit minus the factor 50). If this state of relaxation was only the beginning I was surely in for a treat.

Om-Believable

As a firm believer in the powers of meditation in mindfulness, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the treatment incorporated elements throughout with the introduction of two singing bowls. An odd sensation to begin with; once placed on my back Zoe struck the bowls, instantaneously sending vibrations throughout my spine as well as the room, with a sensation quite unlike anything I had previously experienced. This signified the beginning of the treatment and proved the perfect precursor to ensure I was in the utmost relaxed of states. At this point I couldn’t help but contemplate how dubious I had been before arriving for my treatment, this was exactly the respite from everyday life that we all require from time to time - and with that thought, the massage began.

Utilising the most luxurious of oils, Zoe began the massage with her hands before introducing the heated Poultice which sets this treatment apart from it’s traditional massage counterparts. The two poultice or ‘stemps’ as they are sometimes referred to contained quartz sand, kept in place with cloth and heated to the desired temperature. The sensation from heated poultice alleviating knots and soothing muscular pain was nothing short of restorative. With this tranquil combination of cocooned warmth achieved from the bed, targeted relief from the poultice and the calming practice of massage techniques, it was a particularly mean feat to stay awake. The journey of relaxation continued as the treatment progressed from top to toe, before maneuvering to repeat the techniques on my front. The experience then concluded with a repositioning of the bed to a zero gravity position to facilitate the scalp massage, evoking a deep state of relaxation - as though I could have been any more at ease with the world.

Slowly and with as much grace as could be expected from my dream-like hazy state, once the treatment had concluded, I was greeted with fresh towels and an ice cold glass of water before chatting to my therapist who informed me that my suspicions were correct and my shoulders housed a plethora of tension - who knew! Having just spent 90 minutes in heated environment, I was advised to drink as much water as possible to stay hydrated throughout the evening. Guided to the relaxation area of The Spa at Galgorm and feeling as though I could take on the world, the icy delights continued with a refreshing sorbet to round off my mid-week escapism.
