Louise & Ciaran's Wedding
The Couple
Tell us a little about how you met
We met on the dance floor of the Limelight in Belfast in January 2013. I was on the dance floor when Ciaran stopped me as he recognised me - it turned out we had worked in House of Fraser for years together while we were in school/uni but we worked in different departments so had never spoken to one another!
Talk us through the proposal
Louise is a teacher so we booked a trip away over half term to London in February 2017. We arrived on the Saturday afternoon and as we were staying near Tower Bridge, Ciaran suggested taking the scenic route to the nearest tube station to see Tower Bridge lit up at night. We were walking along and Ciaran took a little detour to get cash out, I was giving off as everywhere accepts card so we didn’t actually need cash - then as we were walking away he bent down to “tie his lace” and that’s when he proposed. Tower Bridge was right behind him, all lit up and it was gorgeous! It felt crazy then getting on the Tube to go to dinner in Soho after such an exciting moment. The only people we told that night were the restaurant staff - it worked out well as we got a great table, free prosecco and a free dessert!
The Setting
Weirdly, neither of us had ever been to Galgorm despite living only 30 minutes away but as soon as we started to think about the wedding it was really the only place we talked about and as soon as we visited, there was no doubt in either of our minds. We also liked that it was close enough to give guests the option of staying overnight in the hotel or being able to get home easily.
What made you choose a Resort location
When we went to see Galgorm for the first time, we were just so impressed by the grounds. They are stunning and we could see there were so many places to get amazing photos. Also, with the size of our wedding, the only room that could accommodate us was the Great Hall and we loved its classic, old-school style.
Tell us the most memorable part of your day
One of the most memorable parts of the day was at the reception. We had just taken our seats at the top table and what we thought was one of the Galgorm managers started opera singing! It was absolutely hilarious and something that Louise’s parents had planning secretly alongside our wedding planners! It was an amazing surprise and the guy from Cameoflage got all of our guests involved - the whole room was singing and waving their napkins to “That’s Amore”. It was the perfect start to an amazing evening!
Advice for future couples
Don’t stress, the day will be perfect! Also, we asked our guests to download an app called WedPics onto their phones which meant that everyone was able to upload any photos that were taken on the day - we ended up with 350+ photos just from our guests!
