The Couple
Tell us a little about how you met
This is a question we are always very careful about how we answer. I met Jonny through my brother, Craig. Craig and Jonny were good friends throughout their school years and through college and so it took Jonny a long time to build the courage to ask Craig could he take me on a date and it took Craig a long time to get over the initial shock.
Talk us through the proposal
We got engaged at the Galgorm Resort and Spa on 29th October 2016. To say we do things a little differently would be an understatement at times. We had booked our wedding prior to getting engaged. The ring had been ordered, however we knew that we wanted a Saturday wedding during the summer of 2018 to accommodate family coming over and time was ticking on, knowing how busy the Galgorm would be. So, we decided to get the wedding booked. We didn’t go and view any other venue as we knew the Galgorm was where we wanted to get married and had already made so many happy memories at the resort. So two days before the planned proposal, Jonny told me we were going to the Spa at the Galgorm. From my calculations the ring wouldn’t have arrived on the time scale Jonny had told me at the time we ordered the ring so the proposal hadn’t crossed my mind. Jonny told me to pack clothes for heading out later that evening for a friend’s birthday as we would get ready at the Spa before leaving – it all made sense. On the way to the resort, I had suggested going for a walk along the river as we didn’t get to see this the night we booked the wedding as it was dark. Little did I know that this was Jonny’s plan and during this walk, he got down on one knee and popped the question.

Why Galgorm Resort & Spa?
We absolutely loved coming to stay at the Galgorm Resort and Spa and we had been at a wedding at the Resort a short time before we booked our wedding and fell in love with the Resort even more. We knew that the Galgorm knew how to organise a wedding, taking the pressure off us and they certainly lived up to this on our wedding day!
What made you choose a Resort location?
It was important to us that our wedding location was close enough to our family homes to make it easier for our guests and a location which had enough rooms to accommodate the guests we had coming to our wedding from around the world. We had also planned that the day after the wedding; we would spend the day in the Spa with our family and friends and then enjoy an evening meal at the Galgorm. As planned, we organised this and a lot of our guests stayed the extra night so it made the day after the wedding just as exciting as our wedding day and we got to reflect on our day and spend time with a lot of our guests before heading off on honeymoon.
Tell us the most memorable part of the day
We actually don’t think we could pin point an exact point in our day that was most memorable. Our day was so special to us, it was exactly what we had planned and we had the best day.
Advice for future couples?
Do what you want. It is nice and helpful at times to get our people’s opinions but remember it is your day, so have it the way that you want. Also, as many people say, the day goes so fast and it really does so just make sure you are taking it all in!
